Marvel's What If...? features Guardians of the Galaxy warrior Drax with a brand-new voice.

According to live-action character incumbent Dave Bautista, this is simply because he wasn't invited back to the party.

This claim was made via Twitter yesterday (August 2), when one of the actor's fans wrote to him: "Hey, Dave!! Why won't you be voicing Drax on #WhatIf?"

"Let's start with I was never asked," Bautista responded.

Further down the conversation, Guardians director James Gunn couldn't believe what he was reading, replying to his close friend and colleague: "What".

Although this raises a few questions, it's important to note that Iron Man's Robert Downey Jr, Captain America's Chris Evans, Captain Marvel's Brie Larson, Spider-Man's Tom Holland, Ultron's James Spader, Black Widow's Scarlett Johansson, Gamora's Zoe Saldana, Scarlet Witch's Elizabeth Olsen and Pepper Potts's Gwyneth Paltrow don't reprise their characters in the animated form either.

Still, Bautista has plenty of plates spinning elsewhere, with Netflix's Army of the Dead now streaming and the enormously anticipated Dune on its way to cinemas this autumn.

Marvel's What If...? will arrive on Disney+ on August 11.
