Guardians of the Galaxy 3's Will Poulter mistaken for Toy Story character

Will Poulter has revealed that he was mistaken for Toy Story villain Sid during a recent trip to Los Angeles.

The actor, who has joined the MCU as Adam Warlock in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, recalled the strange encounter while discussing his career with GQ Magazine.

"A guy at a urinal in LA last week turned to me and said: 'You're in Toy Story, right?' And I was like: 'Well, that was animated.' I don't want to be rude," he shared.

Poulter went on to admit that the comparisons between himself and Sid aren't exactly new, recalling the time he dressed up as the character in 2017 to raise awareness for anti-bullying week.

"Arguably I haven't helped my case," he continued. "But [Toy Story came out in] 1995. I was two. And they weren't doing it through live action."

Poulter also opened up about the way strangers regularly debate his appearance, referring to a viral post in which a photo of him in We're the Millers is compared to a photo from Guardians of the Galaxy.

"There's literally 10 years between those two pictures but people don't even realize it," he pointed out.

The Black Mirror: Bandersnatch star continued: "Someone in the pub two days ago said: 'Oh, you've had a glow up. Congrats.' It's a little bit hard to not accept that as: 'You were ugly for the best part of your life, and now things are looking up a bit!'

"I don't know if that's just me being cynical, but it's hard to not take it as a backhanded compliment. People say it like it's positive, but it could also contribute to a complex."

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 is out in cinemas now. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 1 and Vol 2 and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special are streaming on Disney+.
