Ahead of the movie's imminent release, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 director James Gunn has been teasing even more good stuff.

Speaking at the Writers Guild Festival over the weekend, Gunn revealed some fresh info about Star-Lord's father Ego the Living Planet, who will be played by Kurt Russell.

The director confirmed to audience members that Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) meets his dad within the first 20 minutes of the movie – which we certainly weren't expecting.

He also spoke at large about the writing process and his relief to move on to the film's sequel, revealing he "had a lot more freedom" this time around.

Gunn said (via Variety): "Because the first movie did well and it was great not having to explain the five major characters to the audience in the first half hour, we just go straight into the story."

The revelation comes just days after Gunn and members of the Guardians cast unveiled a host of new promotional posters.

Last week, the director also unveiled three of the movie's character shots via social media.

These featured images of Bradley Cooper's Rocket, as well as the franchise's new members, Elizabeth Debicki's Ayesha and Russell as Ego – you can check them out right here.

The director has also previously said that the film's new female characters will be total oddballs, so there's that to look forward to as well.

Until then, you can check out bad-ass Baby Groot.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 hits cinemas on April 28 in the UK and May 5 in the US.
