The Nun – the much-awaited spinoff from The Conjuring – is taking shape and we now have our lead actress.

American Horror Story's Taissa Farmiga will be playing the title character. Yep, the same Taissa whose sister Vera Farmiga stars in The Conjuring.

She'll appear as the young and rather creepy nun opposite Demián Bichir in director Corin Hardy's movie (via Deadline).

The Nun is the second spinoff from The Conjuring series after Annabelle, which is getting the sequel Annabelle: Creation after taking $246 million at the box office.

James Wan - director of The Conjuring - and Peter Safran are set to produce The Nun, from a script written by Gary Dauberman with Wan. Dauberman will also executive produce alongside Todd Williams.

News came last year that Wan and Safran were reuniting to produce a follow-up focused on The Conjuring 2's villain – a character that almost didn't exist at all as she was only added during last-minute reshoots three months before the film's release.

The Conjuring 2 starred Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson as paranormal investigators who travel to Britain to assist the Hodgson family in ridding their house of demonic activity.

It grossed over $100 million worldwide following its release last year, including earning a massive opening weekend total of $40 million at the US box office.

The Nun is appropriately scheduled for release on Friday the 13th, in July 2018.
