On the Season 7 premiere of Game of Thrones, viewers were introduced to a new character, played by Oscar winner Jim Broadbent. The character has been confirmed by the official HBO website to be Archmaester Ebrose. Archmaesters are the highest-ranking members of the order of maesters, a group of learned men who are healers and scholars.
Ebrose is a character from the books who is known for his skill in the art of healing, and he has a ring, rod, and mask made of silver, signifying his skill. In A Feast for Crows, it’s revealed that Qyburn was expelled from the order of the maesters because he desired to surpass Ebrose as a healer and thus broke the rules by opening the bodies of the living.
