After poor opening-day results, Guinea-Bissau and Egypt are out to finally make an impact on this year’s Africa Cup of Nations when they square off later today.

While the number of teams progressing through to the next round does offer some hope, the manner of Egypt’s performance against Nigeria in particular will have been disappointing.

Rarely did they trouble the Super Eagles in their Group D opener while Guinea-Bissau could rue missing a crucial penalty against Sudan.

For Egypt, Al Ahly midfielder Amr El-Sulya could come back into the side after missing the Nigeria loss with a calf injury.

Ahmed Fatouh, however, will be out after limping off in the opener.

No major changes expected for Guinea-Bissau.

As disappointing as Egypt were in the opener, there were signs towards the end of the game that the likes of Mohamed Salah and Trezeguet were starting to get in behind. It would be too much to suggest they finished strongly, although there were certainly signs of life.
