Guinness has issued a big update for drinkers in England afte a shortage before Christmas. A national shortage was reported in December amid a skyrocketing popularity of the stout - with one in every ten pints pulled in the capital now a Guinness.

Now, Guinness has announced the launch of their highly-anticipated Guinness microbrewery in Covent Garden. This ambitious new opening was announced back in 2022, with all hope thrown an autumn 2023 opening.

The project, which is set to cost £73 million, will be a microbrewery and cultural hub, featuring numerous bars, community and events spaces, a merch store, and a rooftop restaurant boasting panoramic views of the city.

It comes after the owner of the iconic Irish tipple placed “allocation limits” on the number of kegs that pubs could receive. The limits only applied to pubs in England, Wales and Scotland, and not Northern Ireland or the Republic of Ireland.

At the time, a spokesperson said: "We are grateful to all our customers for their engagement, collaboration, and patience over the past three weeks. We are producing more Guinness today than we ever have in our 265-year history, and we continue to work closely with customers across our network to manage Guinness distribution as efficiently as possible, ensuring we maximise supply and minimise disruptions for pubs, retailers, and consumers."

There are hopes the stock will be back to normal for the Six Nations tournament in February and March. The venue will also offer tours with Guinness experts, much like those at the famed Guinness Storehouse in Dublin, it has also been reported.
