A flat plagued by fighting, drugs and noise nuisance has been shut down.

Cleveland Police and the housing provider had received numerous complaints about antisocial behaviour in and around the property in Helmsley House, with reports of people coming and going at all times of the day and night, drug misuse and people drinking alcohol in communal areas then causing a nuisance.

There were also reports of fighting, weapons being present, noise nuisance, people’s doors being kicked and fire alarms being activated deliberately at the Guisborough property.

Neighbourhoods Inspector Neil Deluce said: “Everyone has the right to live peacefully in their home but unfortunately this was not the case in Helmsley House where time and time again there was noise, nuisance and disturbances. This sort of behaviour cannot be allowed to take place so we worked very hard with our local authority and housing partners to gather the evidence we needed to successfully achieve the closure order.

“These orders are another useful tool which police and partners can use to help stop those who persist in making life a misery for others in their neighbourhood and I’d encourage anyone else who may be affected by these issues to contact Cleveland Police."
