Gunman who killed dad in car in Edgbaston still on the run

A gunman who shot a beloved dad dead inside a car remains on the run from police, with the force issuing a fresh statement on the fatal shooting. Raad Asmael was shot dead in a car in Rotton Park Road, Edgbaston a week ago.

The 27-year-old, described as a much-loved husband and father, sadly was pronounced dead following the tragic incident on Friday, November 22. Now seven days on, investigators are still trying to trace the person responsible for his murder.

No arrests have been made and officers will be back in the Edgbaston area tonight, November 29, to carry out door to door enquiries. Officers will be trying to identify witnesses to help track down the offender.

A police presence will be seen in the community to reassure locals. In an update issued tonight, the force said: "We are continuing our investigation into the murder of Raad Asmael, who was killed one week ago today.

"The 27-year-old was sadly pronounced dead after he was shot inside a car in Rotton Park Road at the junction of City Road in Edgbaston. Investigators from our Homicide Team still are continuing to work to identify who was responsible for the murder.

"Our officers will be back carrying out house-to-house enquiries around the area tonight, trying to identify witnesses who can help with our investigation. We continue to hold a presence in the area to reassure the community.

His grieving family previously released a short statement in tribute to Raad, which read: “Indeed, we belong to Allah and indeed to him we shall return. Our beloved husband, son, father and brother.”
