The BBC is taking on classic tale A Christmas Carol, and has assembled a mighty fine cast to boot.

The new version has cast Memento's Guy Pearce as Ebenezer Scrooge and Line of Duty's Stephen Graham as Jacob Marley.

If that wasn't enough, the BBC One series will also include Lord of the Rings' Andy Serkis as the Ghost of Christmas Past, Peaky Blinders' Charlotte Riley as Lottie and The Favourite's Joe Alwyn as Bob Cratchit.

Vinette Robinson (Doctor Who) will play Mary Cratchit, Rutger Hauer (Blade Runner) is on board as the Ghost of Christmas Future, as is Kayvan Novak (What We Do In The Shadows) as Ali Baba and Lenny Rush (Old Boys) as Tim Cratchit.

The adaptation comes from Peaky Blinders and Taboo creator Steven Knight, and is described as "a haunting, hallucinatory, spine-tingling immersion into Scrooge’s dark night of the soul".

"This production of A Christmas Carol will respectfully present what we believe to be a timely interpretation of a timeless story," he said.

Tom Hardy is also on board as an executive producer, and it has already been revealed that he will play an undisclosed yet 'pivotal' role too.

"It’s gonna be three one-hours," Knight previously said, "it's largely done in terms of the script. We're planning to shoot this year and hopefully get it on the screen for Christmas."

A Christmas Carol will air on BBC One in the UK and FX in the US.
