There's not a lock, stock or smoking barrel in the trailer for director Guy Ritchie's King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.

Instead of turning East London into a hail of bullets as in most of his films, Guy goes all 5th century on us as fierce warriors do battle in Londinium with - gasp! - swords and beasties.

Charlie Hunnam is the would-be king who returns to his home after years in exile, but he initially doesn't have designs on taking the throne from the cruel king Vortigern (Jude Law). Don't take our word for it!

"I've never had any power, or any desire to achieve it," Hunnam's Arthur swears in the teaser.

However, Arthur simply can't stand by as Vortigern abuses the good-hearted people of Londinium and before long he's mounting his army to seize power.

If you were wondering if it was even possible to make a medieval war movie in 2017 without cast members from Game of Thrones involved, it's definitely not.

There are no White Walkers storming the castle walls unfortunately, but Aidan Gillen and Michael McElhatton - aka Littlefinger and Roose Bolton - both pop in to boost Legend of the Sword's genre cred.

Even David Beckham apparently turns up in the movie at some point, presumably to kick Vortigern's head in.

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword - formally known as Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur - marches into UK and US cinemas on Friday, May 12.
