Gwyneth Paltrow on ditching her diet to indulge in 'wine and pasta and dairy': 'I had never been happier'

Gwyneth Paltrow knows that sometimes, you just have to drink the wine and eat the tortellini.

In a recent Q&A with followers on The goop Podcast, the Shakespeare in Love actress opened up about her diet, and how she totally ditched it in order to fully enjoy herself while on vacation.

“I went to Italy for a week this summer, and my diet just went totally out the window,” she explained. “I had wine, and pasta, and dairy, and everything that I’m not supposed to have. And it was great, and I had never been happier.”

Before discussing the ditching of her diet in Italy, she had shared an Instagram image on the topic, but from Spain, in which she was holding a glass of wine and indulging in a tasty-looking clam dish, along with a sign that read “f*** your diet.”

The Oscar winner also gave advice on how to manage one’s diet while traveling if you do plan on sticking to a familiar eating routine.

“I don’t find it difficult to eat in a pretty clean way,” she noted. “In most places you can get some clean vegetables or a clean piece of fish, or even a green juice now. What’s hard is trying to make a specific smoothie in a hotel room, and I just kind of give up on that. I just follow the tenets of the diet I’m trying to follow, or the lifestyle I’m trying to follow at the moment, and not be too hard on myself about rules — and not to forget to really enjoy yourself.”

While Paltrow may be more lax in her diet when she’s on vacation, she’s currently following a more strict diet which, she hopes, will help curb some long-haul COVID-19 symptoms.

“At the moment I’m paleo, that’s changed things for me recently because I used to eat a lot of lentils and garbanzo beans and rice and quinoa and things like that,” she shared. All of that is off my menu for the time being. I’m still dealing with a little bit of long haul COVID stuff, and some inflammation, and I’m really interested in bringing those inflammation levels down.”

Paltrow, who has previously praised functional medicine, also shared that she’s doing “some intermittent fasting” when it works for her menstrual cycle.

While Paltrow’s diet may seem strict, she proved that it can also be delicious. Recently, she shared a fish and veggies recipe to Instagram.

“Last night’s dinner was made up of simply prepared fish, zucchini, shallots, and salsa verde,” she captioned the post. “You throw everything onto a sheet pan and your meal is ready in under 20 minutes.”
