Goop founder Gwyneth Paltrow celebrated her 48th birthday yesterday at home with her family.

To mark the occasion, she shared an Instagram post with her 7.3 million followers where she's posing in her garden, hand to face, totally in the nude.

Smiling widely and embracing her body, she thanked followers for their well wishes.

Captioning the image, she said: "In nothing but my birthday suit today... thank you all so much for the birthday wishes and thank you to @goop ‘s insanely amazing brand new body butter for making me think I can still get my kit off. 💙 #goopgenes"

Unsurprisingly, several followers had something to say about the actresses' post, including Gwyneth and Coldpay frontman Chris Martin's 16-year-old daughter, Apple.

Commenting from her private Instagram account, she wrote: 'MOM', to which Gwyneth replied with three laughing face emojis.

Apple later followed up with a 'You are killing it tho.', showing her support for her Mum.

Sadly, jumping on the chance to shame Gwyneth for her body confidence and positivity, several fans expressed their shock and mocked the star for posting a naked pic. Many took fault in the star posting such an image 'at her age', with one Instagram user commenting: 'I'd be mortified, too, even if my mom is beautiful and has a terrific figure.'

Another continued: 'Woowww [sic]... I didn't know this side of her. I thought she's different from others and she would never do such things... but you have disappointed me. Why would you post such pics... why why why'

Another Instagram user similarly commented: 'Why in the world would you ever post this?'.

The vast majority of comments, however, praised Gywneth for the move, with many applauding the star and sharing their enthusiasm for all bodies being celebrated, whatever your age.

One user simply said: 'What's inappropriate? It's a beautiful and tasteful picture. We all have human bodies and they are all wonderful in their own ways. There is nothing shameful about bodies—just our attitudes towards them IMO.'

Hear, hear—bodies should be celebrated, loved and cherished.

Gwyneth has long been vocal about her passion for looking after her body, making sure to live an active lifestyle and eat plenty of nutrient-dense foods. One WH staffer even ate like her for the day and was pretty surprised by the results — read how she found Gwyneth's daily diet.

Earlier in the year, she made headlines for selling candles moulded into a vagina shape on the Goop website so, really, the post is rather on brand for the star.

However you feel about the Goop empire, we've said it once and we'll say it again, shaming is never acceptable.
