Gypsy Rose Blanchard Claims Mom Convinced Everyone She Was Ill and Disabled Since Childhood

Gypsy Rose Blanchard was sentenced to 10-years in prison for her role in the stabbing death of her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard in June 2015.

Gypsy had reportedly been battling several chronic diseases since childhood and says she’d been confined to a wheelchair for paralysis since the age of 7.

“I did get into a motorcycle accident with my grandfather,” claims Gypsy who says she skinned her knee in the incident. “She (Dee Dee) took me to the hospital and then told me that the doctor gave her a wheelchair and I had to be in a wheelchair now.”

Gypsy says Dee Dee had her using a walker even before the accident, claiming, “She said that I had Muscular Dystrophy.”

Gypsy’s father, Rod Blanchard, says he questioned his ex-wife about their daughter’s supposed medical condition, “And the answer I got from Dee Dee; she had a disease, and it would progressively get worse and that she will be bound to the wheelchair all her life.”

But Gypsy says she was always able to walk but claims Dee Dee had convinced everyone she’d been sick and disabled most of her life. She claims her mother convinced doctors to give her a feeding tube, prescribe medicine she didn’t need and perform dozens of unnecessary procedures.

In the months following the murder, an investigation led authorities to determine Dee Dee Blanchard had suffered from a mental disorder frequently referred to as Munchausen syndrome by proxy (MbP). Known medically as Factitious disorder imposed on another, MbP is a condition in which a caregiver makes up or causes illness or injury in a vulnerable person for attention or gain.

Rod, who lives in Louisiana, says he rarely saw his daughter after Dee Dee moved them to Missouri in 2005 as evacuees from hurricane Katrina, and claims didn’t know Dee Dee was lying about Gypsy’s health.
