Haboob Rolls Over Southwestern Kansas

Strong winds stirred up a powerful dust storm – also known as a haboob – in southwestern Kansas on Wednesday, May 18.

The National Weather Service (NWS) reported eastern-moving severe thunderstorms on Wednesday created a “massive cloud” of dust at the storm’s leading edge.

A cold front is expected to sweep across southern Kansas late on Thursday night, the NWS said, with strong north winds dropping temperatures by 40 degrees Fahrenheit by Saturday.
