A man is fighting for his life in hospital after being ambushed in a violent street attack in Hackney.

Police were called in the early hours of Saturday morning to reports that two men had been wounded following an assault.

Officers raced to the corner of Kingsland Road and Middleton Road in Haggerston where they found two injured men, both in their 30s.

It is thought the two victims were attacked by two men at around 1.15am. The suspects then ran away following the assault.

The two victims were rushed to hospital. One of the men, a 35-year-old, suffered a serious head injury and is in a critical condition, police said on Saturday afternoon.

The second victim has since been discharged from hospital.

Police are hoping to find any camera footage of the attack. It is thought the assault was recorded by witnesses on their mobile phone.

Taz Johnston said the road was still taped off by police on Saturday afternoon - more than 12 hours after the attack.

Police cars were at the scene and officers were standing at the cordon.

Anyone with any information or video footage has been asked by the Met Police to come forward.
