Hackney crash: Moment lorry burst into flames after crashing into railway bridge
This is the shocking moment a lorry burst into flames after crashing into a railway bridge in Hackney.
Firefighters were called to the vehicle fire on Mabley Street in Homerton at around 2.30am on Tuesday.
Footage of the blaze shows large flames engulfing the front of the lorry on the residential street and its burnt wreck remained at the scene hours later.
Roughly 15 firefighters were sent to the scene and the blaze was under control in around 1 hour and 45 minutes.
Two men left the vehicle before the London Fire Brigade arrived and there were no reports of any injuries.
Two fire engines and one Fire Rescue Unit from Edmonton, Leyton and Islington fire stations attended the scene.
The road remained closed on Tuesday with the 488 bus diverted.
A warning on travel data site Inrix said: “Road closed due to railway bridge struck by vehicle on A102 Kenworthy Road both ways between Ballance Road and Kemey's Street.
“Detour in operation - for the 488 bus route. Since 04:00 this morning. Traffic is coping well.”
