A man has died after he was hit by a car in an alleged drink-driving crash early on Saturday morning.
The pedestrian, aged 47, was struck by the vehicle in Whalebone Lane North, Hainault, just before 1.45am.
Paramedics and police officers arrived at the scene, near Romford Road.
But, despite the efforts of an ambulance crew, the man was pronounced dead just before 2.30am.
Police said the car’s driver stopped at the scene.
A spokesman for Scotland Yard said a 27-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving under the influence of alcohol.
He is currently being quizzed by detectives at an east London police station.
Following the crash, the road was cordoned off by police but has since reopened.
