When you’re prepping for a night out, you want to make sure your hair is ready to keep up with that outfit you’ve been waiting all day to show off. In this episode of Teach Me How, award-winning blogger and beauty expert, Dominique Baker (dominique.baker), shares her favorite tips, tricks, and products for transforming a sleek daytime style into a perfectly curled look that’s ready to party.
Dominique’s first go-to tool for transforming day hair to night hair is the Dyson Airwrap. The key for getting the most out of the Dyson Airwrap, according to Dominique, is using it while your hair is damp, and making sure not to use an aggressive “pumping action” while you’re using the device. “Bring it close to your head, let it do its thing, and then just let it go,” she says. “The curls last, it looks sexy, and it’s really fast and easy to use.”
Next on Dominique’s day-to-night must-have list is the Super Skinny Serum from Paul Mitchell. “It’s not greasy and it’s really light,” says Dominique of the serum. The beauty expert recommends rubbing a pea-sized amount of the serum on your hands and applying a “light application” to the surface of the hair, adding a sleek shine to any style.
Another great way to transform hair from day to night is by adding texture. If your hair is in a ponytail during the day, Dominique recommends taking your ponytail out, shaking out your hair, and spraying some dry shampoo or dry texture spray into the roots. “If you work it into the roots it gives some lift as well,” she says. “If you like that sexy, effortless, beachy wave look, dry texture spray is great for that.”
If your hair routine involves heat of any kind, Dominique highly recommends that you use a heat protectant, like the Moroccanoil Perfect Defense Heat Protectant, which she claims is one of the best she’s ever used. “If you use heat protectant consistently, you will see such an improvement in the quality of your hair health,” says the blogger.
As far as styles go, Dominique mentions a popular trend is wearing hair loose during the day and putting it up at night. Once your hair is up, Dominique recommends adding some shine and some accessories like a scarf or some pins. “Just have fun with it, don’t overthink it,” she says.
Thanks to Dominique’s expert advice, both you and your hair will be ready to shine and take on any night out!
