Haleem hits top ton as Alsager secure comfortable Talbot Shield victory

Hassan Haleem scored a century as Alsager seconds powered their way into the second round of the Talbot Shield at Longton’s expense.

Haleem hit 10 fours and five sixes in his 109 not out as Alsager amassed a huge 298-5 from their 40 overs.

Kevin Leigh and Adil Javed also played their part with half-centuries.

Leigh’s 68 featured five fours and two sixes, with Javed striking four boundaries and five maximums in his 54. Lee Ridgway took two wickets.

Elliot Wright replied with 63 for Longton seconds, but although Deeji Sebastian (22) and Antonio Alles (20) made late contributions, they were bowled out for 160.

Usman Shah, Javed, Lewis Pickford and Ateeq Ur Rehman all claimed two wickets.

Audley seconds are also through after beating their Whitmore counterparts.

Joe Gibson’s rapid 57 was key to them posting 204-6, although support also came from Finlay Beswick (35) and Ian Wilshaw (34).

Jason Don’s 28 was the highlight for Whitmore in reply, but they were eventually dismissed for 100.

Ben Mellor and John Shenton did the damage, finishing with 4-21 and 3-17 respectively.

Alex Dodd was in sparkling form with the ball to help Bagnall Norton seconds to victory over Endon.

Endon were chasing 135 to win, but fell to 111 all out after Dodd scooped 6-19.

There were also a couple of wickets apiece for Matthew Reynolds and Nick Aitken.

Chris Baldo (47) and Ryan Hancock (22) made the most headway with the bat.

Earlier in the day, Bagnall Norton were bowled out for 134 all out, in which Paul Tomkinson made 28, Reynolds added 27 and Ben Richardson chipped in with 22.

Ronnie Jones, Hancock, Peter Slinn and Baldo shared eight wickets between them.

Sandyford eased into the next round after winning at Barlaston seconds.

Jamie Oakley hit 69, featuring six fours and four sixes, in Sandyford’s 194-8 from their 40 overs.

Theo Sharman weighed in with an unbeaten 42 and Joe Warrilow made 23. Wilson Roe snared 3-34.

Sam Taylor (30) and Edward Seabridge (22) fronted the Barlaston response, but they were restricted to 128-9. Warrilow completed a handy individual day with 4-23.

Betley secured a six-wicket win at home against Oakamoor seconds.

Jacob Fullick’s 32 was the mainstay of Oakamoor’s 145 all out. Luke Taylor took 4-15.

It was a solid team effort from Betley as they knocked off the runs inside 28 overs.

Oliver Stoneley top-scored with 29, backed up by Lewis Clarke’s 26 not out and Taylor’s 25. Jack Palmer picked up two wickets.

Bignall End had few issues in sweeping past the challenge of Blythe seconds.

Ben Dixon’s 51, Kieran Peake’s 38 and 30 from Ian Lewis helped Bignall End to 213-9 in the first half.

Abdul Satar (3-47) led the Blythe bowling effort, with double strikes coming from Tahir Raza, Daniel Grace and Nauman Safeer.

Taqib Rangzeb made 22 in reply, but Blythe fell to 92 all out as Dave Quinton picked up 3-13.

Burslem seconds squeezed through with a three-run home victory over Cheadle 2nd XI.

Chris Lowndes and Michael Rowley contributed 49 and 40 respectively as Burslem posted 144-7.

James Jackson, Ryan Elwell and Jack Winfield all claimed two wickets.

Johnathon Clowes (36) and Jake Mills (24) were in good touch after tea. But Cheadle were skittled for 141 as Logan Hughes (3-18) and Wasim Ahmed (3-48) took three wickets apiece.

Eccleshall seconds impressed with the bat to beat Porthill Park thirds by seven wickets.

Porthill Park took first use and amassed 171-6 on the back of Ross Kesteven’s 83, which included nine fours.

Malik Levack (34) also impressed, while Deklan Binnington captured 3-39.

That total was well within range for Eccleshall, who had more than four overs remaining when they crossed the line.

Stewart Sim anchored matters with an unbeaten 70, hitting nine fours and one six, with Binnington (49) and Jonathon Bramall (26no) also making valuable contributions to see them through to the next stage of the competition.

Knypersley seconds enjoyed cup success with victory at home over Hanford.

Hanford were bowled out for 145 on their visit to Tunstall Road, with Jack Muni taking 4-15.

Syed Haider Bukhari and Amran Khan chipped in with 37 and 28 respectively.

In reply, Lewis Townsend’s 47 and 30 from Jack Baker helped Knype to a four-wicket win with three overs remaining.

Bukhari helped himself to 3-23 for Hanford.

Little Stoke firsts beat the club’s seconds in their tie.

The seconds were skittled for just 95 as Arris Ziad snared 4-5 and Sohail Hussain took 4-23.

Andy Leese’s 39 then eased the firsts to a seven-wicket triumph in quick time.

Silverdale seconds prevailed on their journey to Newcastle & Hartshill 2nd XI.

Harry Ford’s 41 was the top score in Castle’s 108 all out. Matt Smith claimed 3-15.

Deacon Purcell scooped 3-8 after the interval, but Silverdale clinched victory as Smith weighed in with 32.

Wood Lane seconds defeated Woore in their clash.

Ashley Guest hit nine fours in his 61 not out to guide Wood Lane to 186-5 from their allocation.

Lee Pinches made 33 in Woore’s reply, but they were all out for 141 as Michael Leigh took 5-23.

Caverswall seconds beat Leycett 2nd XI by six wickets after being set 157 for victory.
