In a joint statement, the couple said: “It is with a heavy heart that we have come to the decision to divorce. We move forward with love and respect for one another and the shared focus for what is best for our son.

“We wish each other nothing but happiness in life, and we hope that you respect our, and most importantly our children’s privacy, as we go through this difficult period.”

The pair, who have two-year-old son Maceo-Robert together, wed in a ceremony in France in July 2013. They have a prenuptial agreement.

Halle also has daughter Nahla from her previous relationship with Gabriel Aubry.

TMZ, who have obtained the documents, report that Halle filed for divorce first using pseudonyms for herself, Maceo and Olivier (who is being represented by Kim Kardashian’s divorce lawyer Laura Wasser), and has cited ‘irreconcilable differences’ as the reason for their split.

The site also claims the two had been fighting over an incident from January, in which Olivier shoved an Los Angeles International Airport employee with a car seat.

A source told them: “They’re just very, very different people. He’s a very macho guy, and things just didn’t jive.”

PEOPLE reports that both are seeking joint custody of Maceo, with Halle’s divorce papers allegedly saying they will ‘share custody as is in the best interest of the child’.

The form apparently adds that Olivier should provide transportation to and from visits, and will need permission to take their son out of California.

The actress has reportedly asked for no spousal support on either side, and the costs of raising Maceo to be shared, while Olivier has requested for those issues to be sorted later.

A source told the site that their relationship had ‘run its course’, claiming: “They are keeping it amicable now. She is okay.”

It is Halle’s third divorce and Olivier’s first. We wish them both all the best.
