Hamilton: Ava DuVernay, Shonda Rhimes, Kristin Chenoweth and more celebrate release of movie on Disney+
The movie version of Hamilton is now available to stream on Disney+, much to the delight of the musical’s famous fans.
Ava DuVernay, Shonda Rhimes, Jimmy Fallon, and more rejoiced following the movie’s release on Friday 3 July.
Hamilton, the movie, was filmed during three separate performances in 2016 and features the original Broadway cast, including creator Lin-Manuel Miranda.
DuVernay – whose films include 13th – dedicated several tweets to the film. She re-shared one of her own tweets dating back to 2015, when she first raved about Hamilton after seeing it at The Public Theater in New York City.
“Throwback to my first tweet about #Hamilton after seeing off-Broadway about a month after it opened at The Public. Seen several times since, and I always feel the same as the first night. Tonight was no exception. Brava @Lin_Manuel and each beautiful artist who touched this gem,” she wrote.
Rhimes paid tribute to the musical’s dance parts, tweeting: “Nobody speak to me today. My sisters and I are spending the day with the #Hamilfilm. We have choreography to learn.”
Jimmy Fallon raved about the movie too, writing: “Happy Hamilton Day!!! I wish I could see it AGAIN for the first time. What an amazing experience? Congrats to @Lin_Manuel, [Hamilton musical director] Tommy Kail, [music director Alex Lacamoire] @LacketyLac and the cast of @HamiltonMusical . The world is watching!! You changed the game.”
Tony winner Kristin Chenoweth, while actor and comedian Josh Gad dedicated an entire thread to his experiences seeing Hamilton multiple times.
