Hamilton Park Racecourse damaged during Storm Eowyn
Hamilton’s racecourse sustained “considerable damage” during the red-warning winds of Storm Eowyn, with the structure of its trackside marquee being blown apart during a day of hurricane-force winds.
Pictures from the Bothwell Road venue show the roof coverings having been blown off and the supporting structure and large sections of glazed doors and windows smashed to the ground after the destructive weather event.
Course officials have closed off the affected area and are now working to assess and repair the damage, which occurred during the quieter months of its diary with three months until the first scheduled race meeting of the year.
A spokesperson for the racecourse told Lanarkshire Live: “Hamilton Park has sustained damage to our club lawn marquee and some signage around the resort due to Storm Eowyn on Friday, January 24.
“The affected area has been cordoned off to ensure safety, and we are actively working on contingency plans to address the impact on our venue ahead of our 2025 season. As the trackside marquee is a permanent structure, it could not be dismantled prior to the storm.

“However, we remain committed to ensuring minimal disruption to our operations. Hamilton Park continues to operate as normal, and we look forward to welcoming visitors for our opening fixture on Sunday May 4.”
Images of the impact of the exceptional weather event were shared on Hamilton Park’s social media channels, with a Facebook post reading: “Storm Eowyn has caused considerable damage to the racecourse, in particular to our trackside marquee.
“At this time we would respectfully request that any visitors, including runners and dog walkers who may usually use the track or grounds, avoid the areas which have been cordoned off for safety.
“The team are working hard to ensure all areas are safe for use, so please bear with us as we deal with the devastation that has been left by the storm.”
