New Handheld ZX Spectrum Console Reaches Funding Target In Just Two Days

After launching as part of a crowdfunding campaign, Sir Clive Sinclair’s new handheld gaming console, based on the classic Spectrum computers from the 1980s, has reached its goal in just two days.

The Sinclair ZX Spectrum Vega+ sports a small colour LCD screen for retro gaming on the go and is pre-loaded with a whopping 1,000 games, presumably including classics such as Manic Miner, Chuckie Egg and Elite.

Sir Clive Sinclair says that the success of the original Spectrum was due to the fact that: “it was adaptable, approachable, very easy to program, and simple to use”.

Users will be able to download additional games free of charge, while the console itself will cost around £100.

Sir Clive’s tech firm, Retro Computers Ltd, launched a crowdfunding campaign in Indiegogo.

Thanks to retro gaming fans, the project exceeded the funding target in just two days and still has a month left to go.

The Vega+ is due to ship in September 2016.

Along with the black version based on Spectrum’s distinctive vintage computers, limited edition consoles in a choice of red, white and blue are also available during the Indiegogo campaign.
