Handmaid's Tale's darkness continues to disturb viewers
Warning: this post contains spoilers for season two, episode two of The Handmaid's Tale
The Handmaid's Tale returned to Channel 4 for the second episode of season two tonight (May 27) as the show brought more death to our screens, and it's safe to say that viewers were just as terrified as as they were last week when the second season began.
Episode two, titled 'Unwomen,' revealed that June (Elisabeth Moss) has been transported another of Nick's (Max Minghella) safe places, this time the former headquarters of The Boston Globe where she's told she needs to stay for a number of weeks until the heat dies down before some NSFW scenes unfolded.
And it's safe to say that those sex scenes most definitely captured fans attention and got a few pretty hot under the collar (the below tweets contain some NSFW language):
I can deal with the torture and the death and the general mind-fuckedness but when the hot sex scene came on I was like... #HandmaidsTale pic.twitter.com/klCudzKnln

“This sex scene isn’t really advancing the story” - things you say when you’re in your thirties. #HandmaidsTale

Elsewhere in the episode, now known as the Unwomen, Emily (Alexis Bledel) and her fellow handmaids were taken to the colonies and forced into hard labour.
While there, Emily gives a Commander's wife Mrs. O'Conner antibiotics that actually turned out to be poison, killing her as Emily blamed her for letting her husband rape so many handmaids.
Am super anti violence, but Emily gets my pass for kicking her in the neck until she be dead #HandmaidsTale

Overall, things are still very dark, which had fans reaching for the cushions:
Darker than dark, watching from behind the cushion #HandmaidsTale

Watching #HandmaidsTale alone tonight. Hiding behind a cushion. Lots of old fashioned horror in this dystopian future. Eeek.
