Offred's rebellion takes shape in a disturbing new trailer for the second season of The Handmaid's Tale.

Emmy Award winner Elisabeth Moss's pregnant rebel is most definitely mad as hell about the trauma inflicted by the sadistic overlords of Gilead in the clip below, and she's just not going to take it anymore.

Echoing the sick commends of her captors, she repeats in the teaser: "Wear the red dress. Wear the wings. Shut your mouth. Be a good girl. Roll over and spread your legs. Yes ma'am. May the Lord open."

The clip culminates in gory fashion as a bloodied Offred wonders aloud: "What the actual f**k?"

Along the way, there are brief glimpses of the episodes ahead, including what appears to be a flashback of Ofglen (Alexis Bledel) before the Gilead takeover.

It was previously announced that Heroes star Clea DuVall would be introduced in the second season as Ofglen/Emily's former wife Sylvia.

"We're able to, using flashbacks, go back into her past as well as bring her to the present," executive producer Warren Littlefield explained.

"I think it's highly effective, particularly as we explore the character of Emily. Alexis is quite remarkable."

Elisabeth Moss has also promised a "gut-wrenching" season for Ofglen, as she tries outrunning the Commanders while carrying a baby. The new season will introduce Tony Award winner Cherry Jones as Offred's mum and Get Out's Bradley Whitford as a Commander.

The Handmaid's Tale will return on Hulu in the US on April 25. Channel 4 airs the series in the UK.
