There's an App That'll Let You Snap a Pic of Santa in the Act

There are the kids who take our stories about Santa Claus to heart and believe without question. Then there are those kids, especially as they get older, who need to see some cold, hard proof. They want evidence. They check the cookies' nibble marks for imprints of Santa's incisors. They look in on the roof for reindeer tracks. They might even try to make it a little dirty by the fireplace to see if they can glimpse a boot print in sand, dust or mud.

For parents of those kids, the Capture the Magic app, available for iOS and Android, makes coughing up some hard evidence of Santa Claus's yearly ride a little easier. The app is like a little security cam, capable of snapping photos of Santa in the act, right in your very own living room.

Okay, maybe it's not a photo of the real Santa — of course that one is too fast and magical to be captured on a smartphone — but it looks pretty darn convincing. Once you download the app, you can choose from a variety of Santa poses, add a holiday overlay and edit by adding a blur or adjusting the brightness so everything looks seamless. Then you pay (the prices is determined by how many add-ons like "stickers" you've used), download and voila — digital proof that Santa, was, in fact, there in the flesh.

Capture the Magic isn't the only site of its kind: Portable North Pole, also available for iOS and Android, goes one step further, and — like an arctic Cameo — lets Santa record a personalized video message for your kids. It has 70 different customizable videos and calls to choose from. Or, for something a little more low-key, kids can call Santa's Magic Phone, and the Big Man will answer. (That's a good option for kids who procrastinated a little too much with their letters to the North Pole.)

If photos are enough to do the trick, I Caught Santa allows you to do the same type of editing as Capture the Magic — for free — right from your smart phone. It's got the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny, too, so you can use it into 2022.

With all of these at a parent's disposable, all doubts will be staved off — at least for another year.
