Hanley's Slamwich Club to open second North Staffordshire venue
One of Hanley's most popular restaurants is among three new food and drink retailers opening stalls within a revamped market. The Slamwich Club will launch its second venue inside Leek’s new-look Trestle Market next month.
It will be providing hungry customers with its award-winning sandwiches, fries and sides from December 6. The Piccadilly eatery is the second highest rated restaurant in the city with five stars from 833 Trip Advisor reviews at the time of writing.
Of the 833 reviews 752 are five stars, while 50 are four stars. Many guests at the restaurant have praised both the service and the food, which is an impressive selection of high-end grilled cheeses as well as some mouth-watering sides.

The restaurant makes such an impressive offering that it even a list of the top 30 burger joints in the country, despite not selling burgers. Reviewers at StagWeb claimed that while not burgers, the offerings were not ordinary sandwiches either.
The news of the launch of Slamwich Club's second site comes as Leek's indoor markets are starting to re-open following a £3.4 million transformation. A number of businesses started trading at the Butter Market units and the Trestle Market today (November 27) and others will be opening in the run up to Christmas. The official relaunch will take place early in the new year.
Councillor Matt Swindlehurst, Staffordshire Moorlands District Council's cabinet member for leisure and Tourism, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to welcome Slamwich to the Trestle Market and to the Moorlands.
“The new food and drink units are such an important part of this regeneration so it’s fantastic to be joined by these local businesses as we start a new era for the markets. There’s just one unit left so if you’re a street food vendor who wants to be part of the vibrant market and events scene in Leek, just get in touch with our markets team for more details.”
The new food and drink businesses will complement the traditional market café that is staying in its usual place in the Butter Market.
The council hopes the investment has future-proofed the markets halls delivering 'modern, flexible spaces' for business and community use and improved customer comfort, safety and security and WIFI.
Applications are now open for stalls. Email the team at markets@staffsmoorlands.gov.uk or visit the website for more information.
