Some Sydney residents couldn’t quite believe that the city’s iconic Bondi Beach was shut to the public on March 21 in a bid to contain the coronavirus pandemic.
The government ordered the closure after large crowds were seen at the beach in the days prior, ignoring social distancing advice from health authorities.
This footage shows the deserted beach on Saturday afternoon, and was recorded by stunned local man Dan Wilkinson, who posted the footage to Instagram with the caption “yep, it happened!”
In a later post, he described the scene as looking like a “Zombie Apocalypse.”
