'It's Happening!' Fall Arrives at Virginia's Hidden Valley Lake

The sight of red, yellow, brown leaves in late September signaled the arrival of fall at Hidden Valley Lake in southwest Virginia, and one expert told local media he anticipated that the state could see “one of the best fall seasons in years.”

Local resident Billy Bowling captured this drone footage over the lake, showing the autumnal changes underway, and captioned it with a quote from television sitcom The Office: “It’s happening!”

Dr. John Seiler, Professor of Tree Biology at Virginia Tech, told news station WDBJ this year “could end up being one of the best fall seasons in years" due to high soil moisture which prevents trees’ leaves from turning brown. Credit: @babowling12 via Storyful
