'Happy First Day of Winter!' Australian Ski Resort Gets Snow Ahead of Post-Lockdown Reopening

Residents in Falls Creek, a ski resort town in Victoria, Australia, were delighted to see snowfall in the region on June 1, with the tourist hot spot set to reopen to visitors for the 2020 season on June 24.

Zac Howard, founder of Mountain Ventures, an international skiing, snowboarding, and snow-trekking company, captured this footage on June 1.

Shared in an Instagram post by the company, the video was accompanied by a clearly excited caption: “Happy first day of winter!”

Australian media reported on May 29 that Falls Creek will be open to visitors once more as of June 24, alongside two other ski resorts, Mount Hotham and Perisher. Several others will open on June 22.

“Skiers and snowboarders will only be able to access the resorts with a pre-purchased pass or lift tickets and on-the-day lift ticket purchases will not be available. Social distancing will be carefully managed at each resort, based on the amount of terrain and lifts open,” 9 News reported. Credit: Mountain Ventures via Storyful
