Happy Valley series three is still shrouded in mystery, but Sarah Lancashire fans need not worry, because the actress has signed up for a brand new TV series.

In a somewhat unexpected move, Lancashire – who last appeared on our screens in 2018 in Channel 4's Kiri – is set to star as the lead in an upcoming eight-part series for HBO Max.

Based on the life of American chef and author Julia Child, TheWrap is reporting that Lancashire will star as the beloved TV chef in the new project, which is aptly named Julia.

Julia Child, who is often credited for bringing traditional French cuisine to the American public, won a number of Emmy awards for her programmes, with her most famous series The French Chef premiering in the '60s.

Julia is set to explore not just the chef's life, but "an evolving time in American history – the emergence of a new social institution called public television, feminism and the women's movement, the nature of celebrity and America's cultural growth".

As for seeing Sarah back in Happy Valley as Catherine Cawood, fans can expect to wait a little longer for that – even if it has been over four years since the drama's last series.

Back in 2018 (!), Happy Valley creator Sally Wainwright confirmed that a third season is still on the agenda. "We've got pretty clear ideas of where the story's going to go," she said, offering little other detail.

Julia is in production for HBO Max.
