Haribo fans have shared their surprise after learning an iconic gummy sweet is not a key as many assumed.

A man took to Reddit after an argument with his wife over the shape of the Tangfastics candy, querying: "After five years of marriage, we've just discovered that my wife and I refer to this particular Haribo sweet as something different to each other. What do you call this Haribo?"

Debate ensues among users; some are convinced it's quintessentially a key, while others insist it's unmistakably a baby's dummy.

A third idea put both ideas aside, suggesting it represents a looking glass. One respondent recounted: "I used to call them keys before I found out they were dummies." Another shared their epiphany: "I always thought they were meant to be a fizzy version of the 'ring' Haribo's but dummy makes sense now that I look at it. Never liked Tangfastics though."

Yet another added: "It was a key to me but I know they're apparently dummies. But they're clearly not dummies." A fellow user supported the dummy theory: "It's a dummy but I call it the key." However, Haribo themselves have verified that the disputed form is, in fact, a dummy.

Commenting on this, one user said: "Dummies, it says so on their packaging..." Another confirmed: "It's a dummy. The things babies put in their mouths."

It comes after another social media user expressed their surprise after learning that the green gummy bear is actually strawberry flavour. Many people had presumed the green sweet was lime or apple flavoured and were therefore stunned to discover its true strawberry taste.

One individual commented on social media: "Calling the police over whether the green Haribo gummy bears are strawberry or apple."

Another added on Twitter: "I was positive they were apple flavoured. Man, now I don't know what to think." The five flavours of the gummy bear sweets include orange, strawberry, pineapple, lemon, and raspberry. However, some were quick to note that the flavours are clearly listed on the back of the packet and on the website, which meant they weren't as astonished by the news.
