Margot Robbie and her girl gang will be battling some true sickos in their wonderfully-titled Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn).

The upcoming Worlds of DC movie is set in a Gotham City abandoned by the Dark Knight, where all that stands between crime boss Black Mask (Ewan McGregor) taking over are Harley and her badass friends.

Black Mask has allies of his own though, one of whom is the serial killer Victor Zsasz. Fans of Gotham will probably be familiar with this sadistic murderer, who celebrates every kill with a physical marking on his body.

In Birds of Prey, Zsasz will be played by The Mindy Project and Sharp Objects star Chris Messina (via Deadline). The role is a real departure for Messina, an actor best known for playing nice guys or snarky jerks.

Also confirmed to be joining the cast of the Suicide Squad spin-off is Fresh Off the Boat's Ali Wong as a member of the Gotham Police Department, as well as Steven Williams (The X-Files), Derek Wilson (Preacher), Dana Lee (Hawaii Five-0), François Chau (Lost) and Matthew Willig (Agents of SHIELD).

In addition to the casting news, the film's writer Christina Hodson also recently revealed the cool story behind the wordy Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) title.

"It was an unofficial aka, when I wrote the script," she said. "I added it about a year or so ago, almost exactly as it is, just as an aka. I didn't think we'd ever use it. We'd always used a working title, so I just had it as a cheeky little thing, on the front cover.

"And then, when we were talking about a title and brainstorming, we all kept drifting back to that one."

Birds of Prey will land in cinemas on February 7, 2020.
