Harrison Ford injured his shoulder while rehearsing a fight scene for the new Indiana Jones film.

The 78-year-old actor is working on the film at Pinewood studios and other locations in the UK and a spokesman for Disney said filming would continue while the seriousness of the injury is evaluated.

The new film, which stars Ford as the adventurous archaeologist, is set for release on July 29 next year and co-stars Mads Mikkelsen and Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

A Disney spokesman said: “In the course of rehearsing for a fight scene, Harrison Ford sustained an injury involving his shoulder. Production will continue while the appropriate course of treatment is evaluated, and the filming schedule will be reconfigured as needed in the coming weeks.”

Ford suffered a serious injury when his leg was broken by a hydraulic door in a freak accident on the set of the Millennium Falcon spaceship while playing Han Solo in Star Wars: The Force Awakens in June 2014 at Pinewood.

The first film in the hit series, Raiders of the Lost Ark, was a critical and commercial hit becoming the highest grossing film of 1981 when it made around $330.5 million at box offices worldwide.
