Harrison Ford "resolves" Blade Runner's big mystery

From Digital Spy

Fans of Blade Runner have spent the last 35 years debating one big question: Was Harrison Ford's character Deckard an android replicant or not?

The sci-fi classic deliberately left the answer to that question vague, with even Harrison Ford wrestling with Deckard's true nature. Luckily, he's finally got the answer while making sequel Blade Runner 2049.

Ford reveals in Vice's Blade Runner 2049 behind-the-scenes documentary that the original film's director Sir Ridley Scott has finally shone a light on Deckard's origins all these years later.

"We're not [arguing over Deckard]," he smiled, adding: "It was resolved."

When asked directly if Deckard was an android replicant or not, he would only say: "I cannot tell you! Because then that question will go away and people will not have that pleasure of debating it."

No fair! Sir Ridley Scott was particularly cryptic when Digital Spy asked him to clear up the Deckard mystery shortly after Blade Runner 2049 was first announced.

While it looks like we might never find out the truth behind Deckard's origin, all signs do point to a belter of a Blade Runner sequel.

Harrison Ford was uncharacteristically effusive in a recent interview in explaining why he agreed to return to the world of Blade Runner for new director Denis Villeneuve.

"I sent Harrison Ford the script and he said 'this is the best script I've ever read'," Villeneuve boasted, with Harrison adding: "What was always wanting, was a story that flowed naturally out of the first."

Blade Runner 2049 opens on October 5 in the UK and October 6 in the US. Watch a trailer below:
