Jose Mourinho believes Harry Kane is happy with his situation for club and country as he prepares for a top-four push with Tottenham, the League Cup Final and the European Championship with England.
Speculation is growing about Kane's future given his desire to win silverware and the fact Spurs are sixth in the Premier League and crashed out of the Europa League last month.
Speaking ahead of Sunday’s visit to Newcastle, Mourinho refused "to play that game" of discussing Kane's future.
But the Tottenham manager said the forward, who is contracted until the summer of 2024, should be happy with the challenges on his horizon with Spurs and England.
Mourinho said: “I cannot play that game. I have to focus on what he is for us.
“I’m always pleased when my players got to national teams and do well so I’m happy he does well with England. I’m happy that England wins obviously but I cannot play the game of what people say, what the people doesn’t say.
“I focus on what he did for us in the last match against Aston Villa. I focus on the effort I saw him put on the pitch for England against Albania and Poland and I focus on the match against Newcastle, where I’m pretty sure that – playing well, very well or not so well; scoring two, one or nil – he will be there for team. That’s where I have to focus.
“What I know is he’s professional,” added Mourinho. “Apart from being talented or not, it’s very important that a player is professional. And he’s very professional.
“I’m very, very pleased to have him and I repeat: I’m happy to see him and all the other guys go to national team and do well. It’s always better when they come back after positive results.
“I think he’s living a good period, he’s doing well for club and county.
“Ahead of him before the end of the season he has nice challenges: a final to play, Premier League to fight for every point and then he has a Euros, and the possibility to play a final at Wembley.
“I think he has to be happy with the moment he’s living.”
Pushed by reporters on speculation over his Spurs future last week, Kane said “we’ll see where we go” after this summer’s European Championship.
Asked whether he wanted to hear more certainty from Kane over his commitment to Spurs, Mourinho said: “No, no. I want Harry to be with us what he has been. I want Harry to repeat against Newcastle the same performance he had against Aston Villa.
“When I say the same performance, I mean the same commitment, the same desire, the same team spirit, the same leadership. That’s what I want and I know that I’m going to have that.”
