The news that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will no longer be neighbors with Prince William and Kate Middleton at Kensington Palace started rumors of a feud between the couples. However, according to royal correspondent Emily Andrews, the situation is much more complicated than that.

In her new report for The Sun, Andrews reveals that one palace courtier told her, "It’s my opinion that Harry feels he couldn’t protect his mother, so he’s going all out to protect his wife. This is his way of atoning." Princess Diana, who died in 1997 after being chased by the paparazzi, was famously hounded by the press throughout her life, and her sons have both been vocal about the devastating effect it had on their family.

According to Andrews' source, Prince Harry "will brook absolutely no criticism of Meghan-and he is so sensitive he often sees criticism or negativity where there isn’t any."

Harry also showed his protectiveness of Meghan when his brother, Prince William, reportedly voiced concerns about their relationship after meeting the former actress at Kensington Palace, another insider told Andrews. Harry reportedly accused William of trying to end his relationship. And even when other members of the family "had concerns" about the relationship, Harry "stood up for Meghan very forcibly. He really loves her," the source added.

It seems clear that Harry is taking steps to keep his family safe. The couple's move to Windsor was also spurred by the Duke of Sussex's desire to raise his future children out of the "goldfish bowl of royal life."
