After being crowned King of the Jungle on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! on Sunday night, Harry Redknapp has revealed that he almost pulled out of the show following a health scare for his wife Sandra.

Speaking to The Sun, the former football manager said that his partner of 51 years was in hospital just days before this year’s series of I’m a Celeb began.

Redknapp admitted he “feared the worse” for Sandra, who was battling sepsis, a life-threatening disease that can lead to multiple organ failure.

He said his wife’s illness almost caused him to drop out of I’m A Celebrity before the show had even begun.

“She’s been ill with the sepsis and it’s knocked her for six,” he told The Sun.

“It was only five weeks ago. Sandra was in and out of hospital but she wanted to come over to Australia.

“I was worried about her coming, I didn’t know if it was going to be too much for her.”

During his time in Jungle, Redknapp shared various stories about his relationship with Sandra, including the time he accidentally ran her over.

He was also reduced to tears when she gave him a surprise visit in the jungle camp towards the end of the series.

Admitting that his wife was “quite lucky” to shake off her illness, Redknapp added: “The day before I came in, if she said she didn’t feel well or weren’t up for it – I wouldn’t have come, I’d have scrubbed it.”

Appearing on Good Morning Britain yesterday, Redknapp said that I’m A Celeb runner-up Emily Atack “didn’t have a prayer” at dating his son Jamie until he saw her wearing make-up.
