Harry Styles breaks Twitter silence to praise Women's March

Harry Styles has always been a man of few words on social media, but lately he appears to be tweeting and Instagram-ing even less than usual.

In fact, aside from an obligatory Christmas Day and New Year’s Day tweet, Harry’s Twitter has been completely inactive since October, where he retweeted an Oxfam charity plea.

However, the One Direction star has broken his recent bout of silence to heap praise on Saturday’s Women’s March, with millions of men, women and children across the globe uniting to protest the presidency of Donald Trump and demand equal rights for women.

Writing to his 29.6million followers late last night, Harry wrote: “Yesterday was amazing. Unity and love. Always equal. H.”

The message was quickly retweeted over 150,000 times, with many thanking the star for his support.

The move comes after we reported that outspoken feminist, Harry, wasn’t at the march on Saturday, but his sister, Gemma Styles, appeared to be representing the family as she joined protesters in London.

As well as Gemma, stars such as Helen Mirren, James Franco, Sir Ian McKellen, Miley Cyrus, Ariana Grande, Madonna and countless others all took part in protests in America, the UK, Australia and across Europe.

Trump has since criticised the peaceful protest, writing: “Watched protests yesterday but was under the impression that we just had an election!

“Why didn’t these people vote? Celebs hurt cause badly.”

He later added: “Peaceful protests are a hallmark of our democracy. Even if I don’t always agree, I recognise the rights of people to express their views.”
