It's official: Harry Styles is launching a solo career and he'll do it on one of the world's biggest stages.

Rumblings about new material from the One Direction star have been around for months, with Harry dropping his own first hint with a TV advert that premiered during The Voice UK last weekend.

While that teaser promised that something musical is coming on April 7, all eyes will definitely be on Harry the following weekend when he performs on Saturday Night Live.

He'll make his first SNL appearance as a solo artist alongside host Jimmy Fallon on Saturday, April 15, presumably to debut two brand new tracks for his upcoming studio album.

One Direction previously performed on Saturday Night Live three times over the years, most recently on the show's 2014 Christmas special.

It's likely no coincidence that SNL lined up Harry's solo debut for the April 15 episode, since it will be the first of four historic shows that will be broadcast live all across the US.

The sketch show usually only airs live on the East Coast, but NBC is taking advantage of increased buzz by airing it in every US time zone for the final stretch of the season.

Following the Jimmy Fallon-Harry Styles pairing on April 15, SNL will go totally live again with Chris Pine on May 6, Melissa McCarthy on May 13 and Dwayne Johnson on May 20.

You can also expect to see Alec Baldwin to pop up in at least one of those shows to reprise his hilarious impression of US president Donald Trump - perhaps for the last time.

Before Harry's big debut, Saturday Night Live sticks to its traditional schedule when Louis C.K. hosts and The Chainsmokers perform on April 8 on NBC in the US.
