Following the attack in Manchester Arena that claimed the lives of at least 22 people and injured 59 more, Harry Styles asked his audience at a gig in Mexico to spare a moment's silence out of respect.

The 'Sign of the Times' singer asked his Mexican fans to understand that he and his band would only play a short, acoustic set that night instead of a full-on show.

"Tonight doesn't feel like a night to celebrate," he says in a video uploaded by a fan to YouTube. "Last night there was a tragedy in my hometown of Manchester and I have been left with a hole in my heart.

"I went to my first show at the Arena, and had some of the best experiences of my life."

He promised that he would return to Mexico soon to perform a full show.

The star was among many celebrities that paid tribute to those involved in the attack, tweeting: "I'm heartbroken over what happened in Manchester tonight. Sending love to everyone involved".

Ariana Grande herself also responded to the tragedy, writing on Twitter: "broken. from the bottom of my heart, i am so so sorry. i don't have words."

An emergency number has been set up for those who are concerned about loved ones or anyone who may have been in the area – 0800 096 0095.
