Harry Styles has said he often has 'no idea' what to do when he's acting.

Appearing at the Venice Film Festival to promote his new film Don't Worry Darling, Styles was asked about the differences between doing music and movies.

The former One Direction singer answered: "Music I've done a little longer so I'm a bit more comfortable. What I like about acting is I feel like I have no idea what I'm doing."

Styles added: "Making music is a really personal thing. There are aspects of acting where you’re drawing form experiences a bit, but for the most part you're pretending to play someone else."

The musician, who made his acting debut in 2017's Dunkirk, also talked about his role in Don't Worry Darling: "This world is supposedly so perfect; it was fun to play pretend in it. It's like driving fun cars, a lot of fun stuff as well.

"We were lucky to have that world built so well around us, so we could play in reality instead of pretending everything was nice."

Styles was joined at the press conference by co-stars Chris Pine, Gemma Chan and Olivia Wilde who also directed the film and is in a relationship with the singer.

Absent from the press conference was the film's lead Florence Pugh who arrived at the festival near the end of the publicity event.

It has been reported that Pugh and Wilde clashed during the filming of Don't Worry Darling with the Little Women star refusing to do promote the movie.

Styles' role was initially played by Shia LaBeouf but he departed in September 2020 with Wilde later claiming she fired the Fury actor due to his behaviour on set.

LaBeouf, who has been accused of sexual assault by his former girlfriend FKA Twigs, recenty refuted this and said he left the film against Wilde's wishes.

Don't Worry Darling is in UK cinemas from 23 September. Watch a trailer below.
