Harry Winks was almost lost for words when describing his return to the Tottenham team following an ankle ligament injury.

The 21-year-old missed the end of last season’s campaign after sustaining the injury in a 2-0 victory at Burnley in April.

But, after three months of recovery, the midfielder made his return to the Tottenham team as a second half substitute in their 4-2 win over Paris Saint-Germain.

"I can’t put it into words,” Winks told the club’s official website. “It’s been a long time coming and it’s been amazing to return, it really has.

"It was exciting to get back out there against good opposition. I was a little nervous about how my ankle would hold up. That’s always in the back of your mind when you come back from injury but I've worked hard with the help of the medical team and when you go out there, the focus is on winning the match and that’s all I was thinking about."

Sublime strikes from Christian Eriksen and Toby Alderweireld, along with Eric Dier’s first half strike and Harry Kane’s late penalty saw Spurs overturn PSG’s early lead.

Albeit showing signs of pre-season rust at times, particularly in defence, their International Champions Cup victory was an overall impressive start to their preparations.

"PSG are a great team, top players and in tough conditions, I thought the lads were excellent,” added Winks.” It was our first proper pre-season match away from the training ground so it was a good test for us and we did well."
