Harvey Weinstein Resting and “Weak” After Being Rushed to Hospital for Heart Surgery

Harvey Weinstein was taken to Bellevue Hospital in New York on Sunday night and underwent heart surgery Monday.

According to Weinstein’s representatives, Craig Rothfeld and Juda Engelmayer, Weinstein was “rushed” to the hospital “due to several medical conditions.” On Tuesday, Engelmayer said Weinstein was resting after surgery and “weak.”

“We can confirm that Mr. Weinstein had a procedure and surgery on his heart today however cannot comment any further than that. As we have extensively stated before, Mr. Weinstein suffers a plethora of significant health issues that need ongoing treatment. We are grateful to the executive team at the New York City Department of Correction and Rikers Island for acting swiftly in taking him to Bellevue Hospital,” Rothfield and Engelmayer said.

Weinstein is being held at Rikers Island as he awaits a retrial in November, after his 2020 rape conviction in New York, and 23-year sentence, was overturned in April. He has a court appearance scheduled in that case in New York on Thursday. Weinstein could also face additional indictments, as a grand jury has been impaneled and presented with of up to three previously uncharged allegations against him, according to media reports.

Weinstein was also hospitalized in July after contracting COVID-19 and pneumonia. His attorney, Arthur Aidala, said earlier that month that Weinstein was “suffering tremendously” from a number of ailments, including fluid in his heart and in his lungs, spinal stenosis, macular degeneration in his eyes and high blood sugars related to his diabetes and the high-carbohydrate food being served at Rikers Island.
