Apple has seemingly leaked a picture of what could be the new iPhone 6C, on its own site.

The image of a new lightning charging dock, which popped up on the tech giant's own online store,  appears to show a previously unreleased handset.

The phone in the picture sports the colourful chassis of the current iPhone 5C but with the addition of a Touch ID fingerprint scanner on the home button.

The iPhone 5C was released back in 2013, but it didn't include a Touch ID sensor, leading to speculation that the photo might show an upcoming iPhone 6C.

Apple is expected to announce three refreshed handsets in September - the iPhone 6C, 6S and 6S Plus.

Since introducing the Touch ID fingerprint sensor on the iPhone 5S, Apple has gradually been adding it to more products including the iPad Air and iPad Mini, so introducing it to a new 'budget' handset would make perfect sense.

The sensor is an essential component for the company's contactless Apple Pay system.

As always, Apple has made no official comment on the rumours.
