Haslingden and Rawtenstall coffee shops welcoming musicians for a set of special shows

A coffee shop will be welcoming musicians for a special show.

Ninja Coffee will be hosting the performance in their Haslingden and Rawtenstall shops on June 8. Ninja Coffee, in collaboration with later@, say they are excited to present Basil Clarke performing a special a rare performance with guitarist Tony Burnside, performing a mixture of solo and Yargo songs.

During the 1980s Basil Clarke led the legendary Manchester band Yargo, whose original style fused a subtle mix of jazz, funk and reggae with pop sensibilities into their own innovative sound. The band gained a fiercely loyal fanbase and following for their incredible live sets.

Yargo was formed in the mid-1980s by Basil Clarke (vocals), Phil Kirby (drums) and Paddy Steer (bass guitar) along with guitarist Tony Burnside. They released their debut album Bodybeat in 1987, on their own label of the same name.

In 1988 they signed to London Records and released their second album Communicate in 1989, which included The Other Side of Midnight which also featured as the title and soundtrack to Granada TV’s late night arts program hosted by Tony Wilson.

Basil released his debut solo album The measure of my worth in 2011 under the name Clarke, a beautiful mix of blues, jazz, reggae and soul featuring Basil’s inimitable vocals and song-writing skills. Nico Harmony will be supporting Basil.

She is a 24-year-old acoustic songwriter from Manchester, influenced by jazz, folk and reggae.
