The Haunting of Hill House season 2: Netflix confirm title for follow-up to horror series

Netflix has renewed The Haunting of Hill House for a second season, titled The Haunting of Bly Manor.

Rather than being a continuation of the first season, the streaming service has confirmed that the next chapter will feature all-new cast and story. Creator Mike Flanagan and producer Trevor Macy will oversee the "The Haunting" anthology series.

The Haunting of Bly Manor is based on Henry James’s The Turn of the Screw, a classic horror novella that centres on a governess hired to look after two siblings. The Manor, though, is haunted by supernatural ghosts and they soon take hold of the children.

Cindy Holland, vice president of original content at Netflix, said of the announcement: “Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy are masterful at creating authentically frightening stories that leave audiences on the edge of their seats, but unable to look away.”

“We’re excited to continue our partnership with them on The Haunting series and future projects to come.”

The first season, The Haunting of Hill House, was a modern reimagining of Shirley Jackson’s 1959 novel of the same name. Flashing between the past and the present, the series followed five siblings who grew up in the most famous haunted house in America.

As adults, they’re reunited once more after the death of their youngest sister, which forces them to finally confront the ghosts of their pasts – some metaphorical, some perhaps literal.

The series starred Michael Huisman, Carla Gugino, Timothy Hutton, Elizabeth Reaser, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Kate Siegel, and Victoria Pedretti.

The Haunting of Hill House is out on Netflix now. No release date for The Haunting of Bly Manor has been announced.
