A new off-licence will open in Hayes, West London after the council granted an application to open seven days a week selling alcohol until midnight. The new shop, called Daman Food & Wine, will open on Dawley Parade in Hayes after Hillingdon Council's Licensing Sub-Committee granted the application on Monday (October 21) subject to conditions.

The shop will be open and able to sell alcohol from 7am-midnight every day of the week. Conditions include the installation of further CCTV, the presence of two members of staff daily from 6pm-11pm, and the attendance of staff to a conflict resolution course within 28 days.

There was previously an off-licence in this same premises called Ur Local. This store traded under the same conditions and hours as the new licence grants. The shop closed down and the licence was surrendered after the owner could not afford the new rental demands from the landlord.

There had been two objections from local residents, however prior to the hearing one of these objections had been withdrawn. One objection had come from a local business owner who felt if Daman Food & Wine were to be granted a licence to sell alcohol, his business would be affected.

Mr Banjan Singh, owner of a grocery store on Dawley Parade, said in an email to the council: "There is already an off-licence and grocery store … if another opens next to my shop it will bring my business down and take my current customers and it will affect my [me] financially a lot." As this was not considered relevant to the licensing objectives it was not factored into the decision.

One local resident objected on the basis that there is already 'traffic, noise and a lot of fights' in the existing car park. The applicant will consider converting a yard behind the store to provide car parking to alleviate the concerns of the resident, reducing pressure on the car park.
