Haynes Museum offers rare glimpse under the hood of classics

This January, Haynes Motor Museum is offering motoring enthusiasts and the curious alike the opportunity to step closer to some of the cars that have defined automotive history.

Until February 14, the Somerset Museum is presenting its ‘Bonnets Up!’ experience, a chance to literally lift the lids, boots and doors to explore a rotating selection of iconic cars like never before.

With volunteers on hand to share insights and stories, this opportunity provides a fresh perspective on the engineering and artistry behind some of the world’s famous and unique vehicles.

Each week features a new ‘star car’, ensuring every visit offers something fresh and exciting.

Among the collection is the legendary DeLorean, famously known for its role in Back to the Future. With its gull-wing doors and stainless-steel body, this time-travelling masterpiece offers visitors a chance to see a Hollywood star up close.

For collectors and aficionados, the SD Rover Estate is a true highlight. One of just two prototypes ever produced, this exceptionally rare vehicle stands as a testament to British innovation, offering a glimpse into what might have been a turning point in motoring history.

Other featured cars include vintage gems and engineering marvels that showcase the breadth of automotive design and innovation.

The list includes the likes of the 1958 Facel Vega and Land Rover, 1981 Lotus Turbo Esprit and 1957 Jaguar Mark VIII. Visitors can expect to discover hidden details and hear little-known stories that bring these vehicles to life.
